Host a High Tea or Brunch
Give Carers a Seat at Your Table
Would your restaurant like to do something special for unpaid carers this October?
Carers Month is inviting restaurants, cafés, hotels and hospitality businesses around the world to donate a high tea, brunch, lunch or shared dining experience for a group of unpaid carers.
The idea is simple: bring carers together around a table where they can enjoy good food, meet other people who understand the experience of caring, and have some time that is just for them.
You choose what you would like to offer, how many people you can accommodate and when it works for your business.
What Could You Offer?
We're open to whatever works for your restaurant.
You might offer:
- A high tea
- Brunch
- Lunch
- Morning tea
- Afternoon tea
- A shared dining experience
- A set menu
- A tasting experience
- A special carers' dining event
It could be a small gathering for 6–10 carers or a larger group.
There is no prescribed format, we simply want to create opportunities for carers to sit together, eat, connect and enjoy themselves.
Why a Group Experience?
Caring can be isolating, and many carers spend so much of their time focused on someone else's needs.
A shared meal gives carers the chance to get out of their usual environment, meet other carers and enjoy some genuine social connection.
There doesn't need to be a workshop, presentation or activity.
Sometimes a beautiful table, good food and welcoming company are more than enough.
You Choose What You Can Give
There is no set value or minimum number of guests.
You might choose to donate:
- One table
- A set number of places
- One sitting
- Several sittings
- A particular menu
- A high tea for a small group
- A brunch or lunch experience
You decide what works for your business.
We simply ask that whatever you offer to Carers Month is provided free of charge to the participating carers.
You Choose the Date
You can choose a date and time in October that works for your restaurant.
You don't need to commit to a particular Carers Month event date.
You might choose a weekday morning, weekend brunch, afternoon tea or another time that suits your usual operations.
How It Works
1. Decide what you'd like to offer
Choose the type of experience, number of places and date or dates you're comfortable offering.
2. Complete the Restaurant Registration Form
Tell us about your restaurant and the experience you'd like to donate.
3. We'll add your offering to the Carers Month website
We'll create a listing with the information you provide, including your location, experience, number of places and booking details.
4. We'll promote Carers Month
We'll share the website through our social media and community networks to help carers discover the experiences available.
5. Carers book directly with you
Bookings and participant arrangements are made directly with your restaurant.
Bookings Are Directly With You
Your restaurant manages its own bookings.
Carers Month does not take bookings, collect payments or manage guest lists.
You decide how bookings will work and provide the booking or contact details for carers to use.
This means the arrangement is simply between your restaurant and the participating carers. Carers Month provides the platform to help them discover your offer.
Your Restaurant Profile
We'll use the information you provide to create your Carers Month listing.
This can include:
- Restaurant name
- Location
- Website and social media
- Description of your offering
- Date and time
- Number of places available
- Menu or inclusions
- Dietary information
- Accessibility information
- Booking details
You can make your offering as simple or as detailed as you like.
Dietary & Accessibility Information
Please provide clear information about any dietary requirements you can accommodate, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free or other options where available.
It's also helpful to let us know about accessibility features such as accessible entry, toilets, parking or other relevant facilities.
This allows carers to make an informed choice before booking.
What We Ask From You
We're asking participating restaurants to:
- Provide the donated experience free of charge to carers
- Honour the number of places you've advertised
- Provide accurate information about your offering
- Clearly communicate any dietary or accessibility limitations
- Manage your own bookings and guest arrangements
- Provide the experience as described
- Let us know as soon as possible if circumstances mean you can no longer provide the experience
- Create a welcoming and respectful environment for carers
No Sales Pitch Required
This is a community initiative, not a requirement to provide marketing or promotional activities.
You're welcome to tell carers about your restaurant and provide your usual business information, but there should be no expectation that carers purchase anything beyond the donated experience.
If you would like to offer an optional paid item or additional experience, please make this clear when registering so we can ensure carers understand exactly what is and isn't included.
What Carers Month Does
Carers Month provides the platform and promotion.
We'll:
- Create the Carers Month website
- List participating restaurants and their donated experiences
- Promote the website through social media and community networks
- Help unpaid carers discover what's available
We do not manage the restaurant, bookings, food service or dining experience.
Important Disclaimer
All restaurants and hospitality businesses listed on the Carers Month website are independent providers.
Carers Month does not provide or supervise the dining experiences and is not responsible for the restaurant, food, venue, service, dietary requirements, accessibility, interaction or outcome.
Restaurants remain responsible for their own business operations, food service, food safety, insurance, venue and guest arrangements.
Carers are encouraged to review the information provided and make their own enquiries directly with the restaurant before booking, particularly regarding dietary, accessibility or other individual requirements.
Please read our full Terms & Disclaimer before participating.
Let's Give Carers a Place at the Table
A donated meal might seem like a small gesture, but for someone who spends much of their time caring for someone else, being invited to sit down, enjoy a beautiful meal and connect with other people can mean a lot.
If your restaurant would like to give unpaid carers a little time out this October, we'd love to have you involved.
